Bharti Prajapati

Born in 1962, Vadodara, Gujarat, Bharti Prajapati studied design at the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad, and have been honoured with various awards like the Critics’ choice Award World University of Design, Bharat Kala Ratna Award, Gujarat Kala Pratisthan, Lalit Kala Gaurav Puraskar, Gujarat State Lalit Kala Academy and FICCI, Women Achiever Award.

Prajapati’s background and exposure to design has enabled her to impart unique and empathetic perspective to painting. Understanding strength of Indian art as a medium to convey and communicate her thoughts have heavily influenced her art and have helped cultivate sensibility towards Indian narratives in various forms of literature, art, design, culture and traditions are the essence of her paintings. Her art journey is also enriched with experiences of travel and insights from interactions with creative rural craftsmen and artisans.

This inclusive coexistence and inter-dependency of literature and art is her basis for creating this series, as she explores the Dohas by Saint Kabir and translates them in her own visual language.
