“One of the very first documented image of Ahmedabad made known to us was the scene drafted by Philip Baldeaus in CE. 1672. There have been a lot of legends describing Ahmedabad city before this scene by Baldeaus. But this is the first visual representation of the city that is known to us. Today, not even a square inch of area is exactly the same. Everything has changed, be it the roads, the city squares, the civilization on the banks of Sabarmati. Today’s Ahmedabad is a jigsaw puzzle, everything is scattered, but when put together it has its own vibrancy and identity. Hence in my work, I have taken a colourful jigsaw puzzle and superimposed the scene by Baldeaus symbolizing the juxtaposition of two different eras.”
