
Born in 1969, Hooghly, West Bengal, is a contemporary Indian painter whose practice has evolved through layered explorations of memory, perception, and lived reality. He completed his B.A. (Fine) and M.A. (Fine) in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, where he was shaped by the critical and experimental ethos of the Baroda school.
Chowdhury has held numerous solo exhibitions across India and internationally, including Sheer Layers Uncover the Truth (2017), A Tree in My Backyard (2014), and Between Thin Lines (2011) at Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai, along with shows in New Delhi, Bangalore, Dubai, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. His works have been widely exhibited in prestigious group exhibitions and art fairs in India and abroad, including Tokyo, New York, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Europe.
His practice is marked by a nuanced visual language that weaves personal narratives with broader social and cultural concerns, often revealing meaning through subtle shifts, textures, and symbolic forms. Chowdhury has participated in several residencies, workshops, and art camps, both in India and internationally. He is a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant (Canada) and the Ravi Jain Foundation Award (New Delhi).
