This fifteenth edition, The Indian Portrait – XV: Variations in Expression, Modern and Contemporary Artists, stands apart from the earlier fourteen exhibitions in The Indian Portrait series. While previous showcases were anchored in research and history — exploring communities, techniques, and traditions — this exhibition marks a personal departure. It brings together portraits of artists, teachers, friends, and collaborators who have shaped my journey and life in art.
Spanning nearly 175 years, from 1850 to 2025, this collection features 64 artists across diverse mediums — painting, drawing, photography, weaving, printmaking, and sculpture. It reflects the evolution of Indian portraiture, where individuality and interpretation merge to reveal both the sitter and the artist. Unlike past exhibitions distant from my personal world, this edition feels like a homecoming. These portraits breathe with memory, connection, and shared history — a living dialogue between art, artist, and collector, bridging time and emotion.
