Born in 1974 in Kumta, Karnataka, India, is a contemporary artist celebrated for his vibrant acrylic and oil paintings inspired by the lush landscapes of Karnataka’s South Kanara coast. He pursued a Diploma in Art from Ken School of Art, followed by a Bachelor of Arts from Karnataka University, and later completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Bengaluru Open University. Hegde’s work is characterized by richly detailed ecosystems teeming with flora and fauna, where he skillfully blends realism with imagination. His compositions often depict animals, birds, and insects within dense, vividly colored environments, using striking hues of blue, green, red, and lavender. A distinctive element of his practice is his playful use of anthropomorphism, attributing human-like qualities to creatures and adorning them with symbolic elements such as silk shawls to signify respect and affection. He also incorporates subtle contemporary motifs, including gadgets and furniture, into natural settings, resulting in layered, dreamlike narratives that evoke a fable-like quality and invite viewers to uncover hidden stories within nature.
Over the course of his career, Hegde has held 11 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows both in India and internationally, reflecting the evolution and depth of his visual language. His contributions to contemporary Indian painting have earned him significant recognition, including the prestigious 52nd National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi and the Camlin National Award from the Camlin Art Foundation. He currently lives and works in India, continuing to explore nature-based narratives through his distinctive artistic practice.
