Ishwar Sagara was born in 1942 at Ahmedabad. Although he graduated from Sheth C N College of Fine Arts, his real art education took place in his elder brother's, Piraji Sagara studio. He worked mainly in exposed brick, wood and metal.
Ishwar Sagara's art dealt with the rustic image of his environment, but his treatment of it was very contemporary, unlike many of the artists of his time. His image of his surroundings was abstract in expression. In 1975, he became one of the youngest recipients of the triennale award. He also received Lalit Kala Academy's National and State Awards. In his later years, Ishwar would draw portraits of the common people, capturing the intricate details that make them unique.
