Aiyanar Horses
The practice of offering vehicles like horses or elephants made of terracotta to revered gods and goddesses is prevalent in many places in India, especially in tribal areas. However, the horses offered to the deity Aiyanar in Tamil Nadu are often very large. Sometimes they are as tall as ten feet. Since the transportation of such large horses is difficult, the method in Tamil Nadu is to build and fire them at the very location where they are to be installed.

This photograph is signed, inscribed and stamped by the artist. The paper size is 13 x 19 inches, image size is 11.5 x 16 inches.
