Prafullata Soni

Prafullata Soni (b. 1997) is a visual artist based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She holds a B.Com from DAVV College (2018) and an M.A. in Drawing and Painting from Maharani Laxmi Bai College (2021), Indore. Her artistic practice is rooted in personal memory, particularly centered around the life and experiences of her mother. Through her work, Prafullata explores the layered identities of women in Indian society—where they are traditionally viewed as nurturing homemakers, yet often endure invisible sacrifices in the pursuit of their families’ well-being.

Her mother’s journey—marked by strength, compromise, and resilience—serves as both inspiration and subject. Drawing from conversations and memories, Prafullata imagines the objects, surroundings, and emotional landscapes of her mother's past, translating them into intimate visual narratives. Her process gradually expanded to include reflections on other women’s stories, bridging personal memory with collective experience.

She works in various mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, oil, and mixed media, using paper and canvas as needed. Her compositions often feature small human figures, influenced by Indian miniature painting styles and ideologies.

Prafullata has exhibited in the 2019 Institute Exhibition (Indore), the 2023 Lalit Kala Akademi show (Indore), and participated in the 2025 Baroda Art Trail Open Studio.

Her practice is an emotional and visual homage to womanhood, memory, and everyday resilience. She lives and works in Vadodara.
