Priyanka Aelay

Born in 1990, Hyderabad, is a contemporary Indian artist celebrated for her vivid acrylic works that unfold like magic realist narratives. Her paintings are populated with birds, beasts, animals, trees, and flowers, brought to life through bold, vibrant colours and intricate detailing. Drawing deeply from the folk heritage of Telangana, Aelay transforms traditional visual languages into compositions that feel distinctly contemporary and unique. Her enchanted, mythical landscapes are filled with exquisite patterns and motifs, reflecting both the energy and simplicity of folk art as well as the aesthetics of contemporary practice. Rejecting linear perspective, she playfully manipulates space and dimension, allowing her compositions to appear fluid, free-flowing, and almost suspended, inviting viewers into immersive, unbounded natural worlds that contrast sharply with modern urban environments. Her work also reflects an engagement with elements of Indian miniature painting, approached through a minimalist yet richly imaginative lens. Through her intricate visual language, she constructs a personal universe where familiar forms of flora and fauna intertwine with the unknown, constantly mutating and reimagining reality. This evolving interplay gives rise to a unique visual vocabulary of implausible and dreamlike imagery, shaped by her intuitive creative impulses. Aelay holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Hyderabad Central University and has also pursued a doctoral degree, alongside her work as a Research Scholar at the English and Foreign Languages University. She has presented numerous successful exhibitions and received wide acclaim for her work. Her artistic journey includes participation in prestigious residencies such as the cross-residency program in Bordeaux, France, organized by Bordeaux Métropole in collaboration with Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad, and a residency at A4all in Sanskriti Kendra, New Delhi. Through her richly detailed and evocative works, Priyanka Aelay continues to captivate audiences, offering immersive visual experiences that celebrate nature, imagination, and cultural memory.
