Born in 1969, New Delhi, India, is a contemporary artist whose work is deeply inspired by nature and informed by the aesthetics of traditional Indian miniature painting. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in 1991 and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in 1993 from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Her practice celebrates the beauty, rhythm, and resilience of the natural world while exploring its close connection with feminine identity. Female figures are central to her compositions, often depicted in quiet, contemplative moments, existing in harmony with their surroundings. Since 2004, a defining motif in her work has been the semal tree, with its vivid red, orange, and yellow blossoms. Alongside elements such as mango trees, birds, and animals, she constructs poetic visual narratives symbolizing growth, renewal, and emotional connection. Her paintings are distinguished by rich colors, delicate detailing, and a tranquil atmosphere, with subtle gestures and expressions lending emotional depth. Themes of peace, introspection, and belonging recur throughout her work, inviting viewers into reflective spaces where human experience and nature coexist seamlessly. Sabia has held numerous solo exhibitions at venues including Triveni Kala Sangam, Shridharani Gallery, India Habitat Centre, ICCR Azad Bhawan, and galleries across New Delhi, Chandigarh, and Baroda. Her recent solo exhibition, “Innocent Spring and Other Tales” (2025), highlights her continued engagement with nature-centric narratives. She has also participated extensively in national and international group exhibitions at Lalit Kala Akademi, Jehangir Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre, and venues in Dubai, Singapore, and Korea, and has been active in art camps and workshops since the early 1990s. Her achievements include the 44th National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi (2001), the 10th Yuva Mahotsava Award (1996), the National Cultural Scholarship, and a Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture. Her works are part of significant public and private collections in India and abroad, and she currently lives and works in New Delhi.
