Sandeep Ghule

Born in 1984 is a contemporary artist whose work is deeply rooted in memory, particularly the emotional and visual impressions of his childhood in a rural village. He holds a G.D. Art in Painting and an A.T.D., qualifications that underpin his thoughtful exploration of the contrasts between rural and urban life. His paintings reflect themes of migration, cultural transition, and the gradual disappearance of traditional village environments. Ghule captures the silence, openness, and organic structures of rural landscapes, often highlighting unplanned spaces, hidden corners, and unusual perspectives that convey freedom, authenticity, and a sense of quiet reflection. A defining aspect of his practice is his use of layered handmade watercolor paper. By tearing and assembling multiple sheets to create textured surfaces, which he then paints over, Ghule mirrors the fragmented, layered nature of memory itself. His works evoke both nostalgia and concern, reflecting the emotional impact of changing social conditions and the displacement of rural communities. While intensely personal, his paintings resonate universally, addressing human experiences shaped by environment, culture, and the passage of time. Ghule has held solo exhibitions at prominent venues such as Jehangir Art Gallery and Art and Soul Gallery in Mumbai (2024), Colaba Art Gallery in Mumbai, and Ratnakar Art Gallery in Kolhapur, in addition to exhibiting at India Art Fair in Mumbai and New Delhi. He has participated in numerous national and international group shows, including World Art Dubai, Hutheesing Visual Art Centre in Ahmedabad, Museum of Goa, Lalit Kala Akademi in Chennai, and galleries across Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and New Delhi. His accolades include multiple awards from The Bombay Art Society (2026, 2022, 2021, 2012), Camel Art Foundation recognition (2021), Maharashtra State Art Awards (2013, 2014), and the Art Society of India Award (2015). His works are part of private collections in India and abroad, and he currently lives and works in Mumbai.
