Gorbio
is a village in Southern France, where Raza resided for many years, during his stay in France (1950s – 2010). In Gorbio, the mountains, the woods, the olive trees, the plants, the flowers, the stones are an intrinsic part of the environment, and stimulated his mind. This piece loosely done in gestural brushwork depicts the foot of a hillside, with the roofs of burnt orange tiles scattered across the wilderness and crowning the hill with the walls of white stone and rough-hewn stone, of ancient village of Gorbio.
